Five star Paris restaurant The Peninsula has clapped back at tennis champ Serena Williams after she claimed she was turned away from there, and declared it “empty”.
Serena Williams and her family are in Paris for the Olympics, the 23-time grand slam winning tennis legend posted on Twitter. X dragging the restaurant for what she claimed was an unfair turning away. Serena Williams shared to her whopping 10.3 million Twitter / X followers “Yikes @peninsulaparis I’ve been denied access to rooftop to eat in an empty restaurant of nicer places but never with my kids. Always a first.
Peninsula Paris was quick to offer Serena Williams a statement after her claims she was “denied access” to an empty restaurant. The restaurant and hotel shared on Twitter “Dear Mrs. Williams, Please accept our deepest apologies for the disappointment you encountered tonight. Unfortunately, our rooftop bar was indeed fully booked and the only unoccupied tables you saw belonged to our gourmet restaurant, L’Oiseau Blanc, which was fully reserved.
The post from Serena Williams and the Paris Peninsula’s response has been mixed. The more savage critics have said “This is why people hate Americans abroad”, with people making the argument that just because you’re a famous sporting legend doesn’t guarantee you a table at a busy restaurant. Others have said the restaurant should have accommodated for Serena Williams on account of who she is. It’s all drama at the Olympics even out of the sporting events!
